“Broad Surveillance of Viral & Antimicrobial Resistant Pathogens in Wastewater”
Tuesday, May 23, 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM (PT)
Monitoring wastewater for infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance is an important means to aid public health professionals in predicting upcoming trends in communities. However, there are a myriad of methods for collecting, concentrating microbes, and extracting nucleic acids from wastewater samples. We provide a framework for collecting and concentration methods and their impact on variety and types of pathogens detected and highlight the benefits of NGS assays to provide a comprehensive view of wastewater surveillance.
