Expanding precision oncology: Practical strategies for integrating tissue and liquid biopsy comprehensive genomic profiling

As precision oncology evolves, offering both tissue and liquid biopsy comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) enables broader access to biomarker-guided care across diverse clinical scenarios. This workshop will explore practical approaches to implementing and integrating complementary CGP approaches in molecular pathology setting. A practicing molecular pathologist will share real-world experience establishing testing algorithms, optimizing laboratory operations, and collaborating with clinical teams to ensure patients receive the most appropriate test at the right time.

Through illustrative case examples, attendees will learn how combining tissue and liquid biopsy expands actionable biomarker detection, addresses testing challenges, and supports timely, informed treatment decisions across the patient journey.

Genome as a platform: Advancing MRD research with Illumina whole-genome sequencing oncology prep

Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) is redefining molecular residual disease (MRD) research by enabling comprehensive genomic characterization from a single platform. This workshop will introduce Illumina Whole-Genome Sequencing Oncology Prep, the first distributed whole-genome sequencing solution designed for highly sensitive MRD research and explore how laboratories can leverage WGS to support flexible, tailored MRD workflows.

We will present initial evaluation data from this novel research assay, highlighting analytical performance, operational simplicity, enhanced molecular counting, and the sensitivity enabled by genome-wide interrogation. Attendees will gain insight into how WGS serves as a scalable foundation for the next generation of precision oncology research.

Unlocking AML biology with 5-Base whole-genome sequencing: Integrated genomic and epigenomic profiling for biomarker discovery

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is characterized by diverse genomic and epigenomic alterations that contribute to disease heterogeneity and biological complexity. Traditional molecular approaches may not fully capture DNA methylation patterns alongside genomic variation within a single workflow. This presentation will explore the research use of 5-base whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to simultaneously generate genomic and methylation data from the same sample.

We will discuss how integrated genomic and epigenomic profiling can be used to investigate AML biology, characterize molecular subtypes, and support the discovery of novel research biomarkers associated with disease progression and treatment response. Research examples will highlight the potential of 5-base WGS to enable deeper biological insights and advance translational research in AML and other hematologic malignancies.

Comprehensive tumor profiling beyond panels: Methylation-aware WGS enabled by advanced informatics

As advances in informatics make whole-genome sequencing (WGS) increasingly practical for routine oncology research, laboratories are moving beyond targeted panel-based approaches to access a broader spectrum of genomic variation and achieve more comprehensive tumor characterization from a single assay. Combining WGS with multiomic analyses, including methylomic and fragmentomic profiling, can provide a richer understanding of cancer biology.

This session explores how Illumina’s informatics ecosystem, including DRAGEN, powers seamless analysis of WGS and methylation data. Attendees will learn how these analyses support tissue characterization, biomarker discovery, and tumor-naïve ctDNA-based approaches.
